And now we have Sandra Bunting for our next author. You can read on to discover a bit more about her and her story here, and also visit her website: https://www.sandrabunting.com/

What is your fave element and why?

Water. I have lived near the sea on both sides of the Atlantic, marvelled at the beauty of the Miramichi River in eastern New Brunswick and the wildness of the River Corrib in Galway, Ireland. I have swum in the ocean, walked along canals, jumped over streams and played in puddles. Now with climate change I appreciate, more than ever, a good rain.

What inspired your story for Earth?

We are blessed in summer and fall with an abundance of fruit and vegetables from local markets or small organic farms. Years of delight at obtaining fresh produce allowed me to meet several of these farmers and learn of their challenges: poor soil, cut worms, potato beetle, drought ... and perhaps something worse.

If you could pick one place on Earth to visit, where would that be and why?

I have two. One is Tibet for its spectacular views and fascinating culture (if it is still able to thrive under China's rule). But I have a fear of heights. Manaus, Brazil, may have a better chance. I am attracted to its tropical vegetation, the rich wildlife and its history, a city complete with an opera house created during the rubber boom of the19th century along the Rio Negro in the heart of the Amazon.

    Excerpt of "Green Potatoes:

“Hold your fire. It is the RCMP. I am Constable Babin. We’re checking your property. Making sure you’re safe.”

Marek lowered the gun, and the Mountie stepped out of the wooded area followed by his partner.

Around the kitchen table, Constables Babin and Deveaux enjoyed a piece of apple pie and a cup of strong King Cole tea.

“This is a nice farm you have here.”

“Yeah”, said Constable Babin. “My father wanted me to run the family farm when he got old, and I said no way. You seem to have managed well.”

“Same for me", added the other officer. “My father wanted me to take over his fishing license. But it seemed like such a difficult, demanding and old-fashioned way to make a living. I hated it.”

Marek took a big gulp of tea. Ever observant, he picked out a noise coming from out in the yard.

    “Shh! I hear something.”

A rumbling sound got louder. Marek reached for the gun.
